Earth First Bonarda Mendoza 2009 Argentina

There are a lot of Italian immigrants who have relocated to Argentina.  Try going to an Argentine restaurant - they serve pizza.  (A cool fact for the more meat-oriented among us: the average Argentine consumes 100 kg of beef per year.)  One of the things Italians have brought to Argentina is grapes.  Bonarda is commonly grown in Northern Italy and was brought to Argentina by Italian immigrants. This one is not quite as big as Malbec but is concentrated, fruity and beautifully smoky, like the lacy smoke just after you blow out a candle.  Lovely. -Kyle

Domiciano de Barrancas Malbec Mendoza 2008 Argentina

Sometimes you want a good Malbec.  But sometimes, you need a great Malbec.  Time for  Domiciano.  Its got the rich, full body, but has a smokiness like a great Northern Rhone Syrah.  The stars on the label are there for a reason.  The grapes are harvested at night in small batches to preserve their freshness and subtle power.  Find out what Silver Lake locals already know.. -Kyle

Mountford Pinot Noir "Village" Waipara 2008 New Zealand

It is said by some, that losing one of the five senses will heighten the other four. I don't know if that has been proven or not, but blindness has certainly not hindered Mountford's winemaker, C. P. Lin. The Mountford "Village," referring to the entry level Pinot Noir, is something to be sought out.. The texture is quite rich, almost like a Russian River, but there is also a subtle gaminess and mild acidity that puts it into the realm of something very special. Bear in mind that this wine is made from de-classified estate fruit and some sourced carefully from neighbors. The estate wines as also spectacular, but need a few years to come around. - George

La Yunta Torrontes La Rioja 2009 Argentina

Argentina's most popular white wine. The Torrontes grape has an aroma and flavor similar to Muscat, but with a dry finish. This is easy to drink by itself but will pair easily with a variety of dishes, particularly full flavored, spicy ones.- George
