Antica Terra Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2008 Oregon
Antica Terra is one of our favorite Oregon Pinot Noirs. Winemaker, Maggie Harrison, has great skill at bringing out the classic Pinot flavor profile. This is a medium bodied wine, smooth and brimming with red fruit. Very easy to drink right now but a couple of years will reward you with added complexity. Warning: this is now a cult wine so we won't have it for very long.

La Fenetre A Cote Pinot Noir Central Coast 2008 California
Our friend Joshua Klapper makes some of the best midrange wines around. He is the owner/winemaker of the highly regarded La Fenetre winery. A Cote is his second label, aimed at the everyday market. The A Cote wines tend to be regional blends rather than single vineyards, thus holding the price down. In this case grapes are sourced from Monterey and Santa Barbara counties. This is a delicious, satisfying Pinot Noir that offers balance without sacrificing pleasure.

Sharecroppers Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2008 Washington
Sharecroppers is the second label of the prestigious Owen Roe Winery. The fruit here is from Washington's Columbia Valley. 2008 was a great vintage for this region and the results are evident in this bold, fruit forward Cab. Watch this wine get better and better as we move into fall and winter.

Sean Thackrey Pleiades California XIX
Every year, Sean Thackrey makes this eclectic blend of old vines "Sangiovese, Viognier, Mourvedre, Syrah and Petit Sirah, to name but a few." Because he likes the freedom of using wines from different vintages, he labels the bottles with roman numerals, to indicate which edition is in the bottle. You will be well served by picking up a few bottles of this intriguing wine. One for right now, one for next fall or winter, and one for two or three years after that. Although not cheap, Pleiades will show you how a wine can change and grow over time without robbing you of your last dime, or demanding decades to come around.

Mount Eden Vineyards "Saratoga Cuvee" Santa Cruz Mtns 2006 California
Mount Eden Vineyards is one of the great, old school, boutique wineries. It hasn't grown to Brobdingnagian proportions, or sold out its founding principles. And, the wines are good and age worthy. This is a Cabernet based wine using some estate fruit and some fruit sourced from other, surrounding vineyards. The intention is to make a wine that can be drunk upon release and still reflect the Santa Cruz Mountains terroir. It is elegant and soft. It feels like a well aged wine from another time. Have this with a grilled sirloin, broccoli rabe and julienned Bermuda onions.

Watkins Syrah Lovall Hills Vineyard Napa Valley 2006 California
Grown in the Mayacamas mountain range, this is a cooler climate than the Napa Valley floor, resulting in a more complex flavor profile. Full bodied, fruit forward with a subtle hint of white pepper.

Bodega de Edgar Syrah “Boulder Ridge Vineyard” San Luis Obispo County 2007 California
The Edgar in question is young Edgar Torres. When he isn’t working at Hug
Cellars and Barrel 27 he is busy making his own wine. This opulent Syrah is
fermented using only native yeast present in the grape skins themselves, a
process that is more time consuming but results in a more “true to place”
wine. If you like bold flavors you will love this one. Only 69 cases
produced.

Alban Vineyards Viognier "Central Coast" 2009 California
John Alban is the go to guy for California Rhone-style wines. He was planting these varietals while you were dancing to Milli Vanilli. His take on Viognier has always combined the exotic and the sublime. You want a little opulence with viognier, certainly, but you like it better if it's not too tarted up.

White Rock Vineyards Chardonnay Napa 2007 California
White Rock Vineyards is the epitome of the family run winery. Claire and Henry Vandendriessche purchased their Napa Valley property in 1977 on the site of a winery built in 1870. They began producing elegant, understated wines in 1986. Now, with the help of their sons, Michael (vineyard manager) and Christopher (winemaker), they are truly a self contained unit. The current Chardonnay release has plenty of flavor and richness, balanced with a focused minerality.
