Prova Regia Arinto Lisboa 2010 Portugal

Arinto is a native Portuguese grape that produces lively, aromatic whites. This version comes from the Lisboa wine region. The flavors are reminiscent of peach and citrus. The alcohol is low and there is just a hint of sweetness. Great by itself or with spicy food.

Bodegas Castano Monastrell Yecla 2010 Spain

A crowd pleaser from Spain's Yecla D.O.The grape is Monastrell (more commonly known as Mourvedre). The flavor profile is decidedly fruity and will stand up to full flavored dishes. It is, however, easy to drink without food due to low tannins and moderate acidity

Laya Garnacha Tintorera/Monestrell Almansa 2009

This is pretty interesting stuff. First off, Garnacha Tintorera (hereafter referred to as GT) is also known as Alicante Bouchet. Whereas regular Garnacha (Grenache) is generally pretty fruity, tip-toeing up to sweet, in most Spanish wines, GT has a juicy, penetrating acidity. It is also one of the few wine grapes with red flesh. Color in most red wine comes from the skins; here it's both. The end result is a dark dazzler that has some pepper, bitter chocolate and blackberry flavors. All for ...

Les Heretiques VDP De l'Herault 2009 France

One of our perennial favorites. A tantalizing blend of Carignan and Syrah from Southwestern France. Loaded with flavor and character without being heavy and bombastic. It is unusual to find a red from this area at 12.5 alcohol.

Chateau de Cugat Bordeaux Superieur 2009 France

In Bordeaux there must be tailors, tax preparers, city servants and shop owners. Not everyone can live in a chateau. These folks have to drink something at the end of their day, but it's probably not Chateau Petrus. I bet they drink this. There is a mixture of dark fruits and coffee on the nose. It's medium bodied, not too tannic or too tart to enjoy right now. Maybe Charro lives up the hill in the chateau. Cuchi Cuchi!

Chateau de la Liquiere "Les Amandiers" Languedoc 2009 France

Lots of white grapes form the south of France make up this delicious white. The texture is smooth and clean but not high in acidity. The flavors lean toward stone fruits and Mexican papaya. A delicious white that pairs well with food but can easily be enjoyed by itself.

Cantina Colle Moro "Club" Montepulciano D'Abruzzo 2009 Italy

Something about this bottle reminds me of Telly Savalas. Black on black label. The proprietary name: Club. I can just see him smirking out of the TV saying: "Come on, get in the Club." And in this case, he would be right. An unusually rich and satisfying version of the Montepulciano grape. So smooth you can drink it by itself. But don't drink it by yourself. "Who loves ya, baby?"

La Viarte Pinot Grigio Friuli 2010 Italy

Have you seen the guys on the street dressed as a sandwich or a bird with a big sign that they twirl around, trying to get you to go somewhere? I want to hire two guys, one dressed as a bottle of Santa Margherrita Pinot Grigio, and one guy dressed as a bottle of La Viarte. Then we would have the guy dressed as the La Viarte, kicking the ass of the guy dressed as the Santa Margherita bottle. That is how strongly we feel about the superiority of this crisp, flavorful Pinot Grigio from Friuli.

The Pinot Project is under the command of the importer, wholesaler and Field Marshal, Michael Skurnik. The mission is to find the best possible Pinot Noir in California and put it in your glass. Chateau la Grolet Cotes de Bourg Bordeaux 2007 France

I have a gripe with most inexpensive Bordeaux.  They may be good wines, but somehow, they just don’t taste like Bordeaux.  Chateau la Grolet = problem solved.  This is the magic, like it’s supposed to be.  Looks like Bordeaux, tastes like Bordeaux, smells like Bordeaux... well, it must be Bordeaux! Word to the wise: leave this open for a few hours to see it really come to life. - Kyle

Wunderkind, Morgan Twain-Peterson, has been making wine since he was 5 years old. (How does that make you feel?) His Bedrock Wine Co. makes more serious and pricey wines that include fascinating Heirloom field blends. This Syrah based "jug wine" is also a mashup of a variety of grapes including Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and even a few white grapes. Full of juicy, uncomplicated flavor for your picnic or BBQ.

Domaine Puig Parahy "Georges"Rousillon 2009 France

A return visit from an old friend. We had great success with this wine a few years ago, and then it disappeared from the market. Now, it is brought back by our friend, Chris Terrell. "Georges" is a blend of Rousillon's traditional Carignan and Grenache grapes with a touch of Syrah. Although this is in the price category of Cotes du Rhone it really delivers more like a baby Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Full bodied and loaded with complexity.

P. S. I have tried this after it has been open for 4 days and it is still good.
